Snert or Erwtensoep is a hearty Dutch split pea soup traditionally eaten on New Year's Day. This soup is also known as a winter soup. 

The Dutch believe that the snert should be thick enough that your spoon will stand up in the soup; as with all recipes, you can modify this one to fit your taste. 

 If you like split pea soup, definitely give this one a try. It is delicious!
